All About Ethiopia

We had another great day at the Blue Cottage! Learning about another country is fun and today we had a wonderful opportunity to learn about Ethiopia. The O’Donnell family came to share their visit to Ethiopia, where they worked in a very small hospital helping children with hearing loss. They shared with us the wonderful pictures they took in Ethiopia including pictures of the children, Ethiopian food, and even a picture of Ethiopian dancing. Then we got up to dance to Ethiopian music and the O’Donnells showed us how to do the Ethiopian dance. Ask your child to show you their Ethiopian dance!

During snack time, the O’Donnells shared some homemade Ethiopian Honey Bread, Yemarina Yewotet Dabo. We each had a big slice and we ate the whole loaf! We sent home the recipe and we all loved the cinnamon, honey, and coriander flavor. We also snacked on goodies Carson had brought back from Disneyland! Mahalo Carson!

Uncle Patrick read us a tale from Ethiopia, “The Perfect Orange” by Frank P. Araujo and has donated the book to our collection. Afterwards we all painted African masks with Mrs. Moats.

Also, Ms. Kunimura has returned from her vacation and brought back an African rain stick and some woven place mats for us to use in the block center.

We had such a fun day at the Blue Cottage. A big Mahalao to Malia and the O’Donnell Family for coming in to teach us all about Ethiopia. Uncle Patrick said that you go there to be of service and come back with more than what you gave! How amazing!
