Central Union Church Preschool and Kindergarten has been awarded LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver Certification from the USGBC (U.S. Green Building Council) for completion of Phase I of construction. LEED is the industry standard recognizing high-performance, sustainable “green” buildings.

The certification recognizes our commitment to sustainability in the rebuilding of the school after our administration building and several classrooms were lost to fire in 2008. The completion of Phase I is also a significant milestone, as this is the first set of new buildings to be built on the campus since the 1950’s. Currently, Central Union is the only LEED-certified preschool listed in the greater Honolulu area.

“We are extremely grateful to all of the individuals, businesses and organizations who have played a role to help bring this project to fruition,” said Marie Hook.  “Since the new building’s opening in 2013 the students and faculty have been able to enjoy having their campus back. We look forward to completing all phases in the same sustainable manner for the continued benefit of all our families and the community.”
