We found out a lot more about the Fish Group this week. The children were interested in making fish using the Push Pin Activity, stencils, and materials from the Art Center. We decided to clear our bulletin board and provide a space for the children to create a habitat for their fish. They were so eager to get started and had lots of ideas! Throughout the week the children worked on adding various elements such as water, animals, rocks, sand, seaweed, ships and boats, shells, sea anemones, and small crustaceans.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
Valentine's Day is an opportunity for us to show others how much we care about them. In celebration of this holiday, we drew about our friends, made heart necklaces, and wrote Valentine cards for our families.
Hooray for 100th day!
This week we celebrated our 100th day of school! Since school began in August, we have been keeping count of the number of days we have been in school. Every morning a straw is added to our pocket chart. Each time we reach 10, we make a bundle and the straws move from the ones pocket to the tens pocket. We finally made 10 bundles of 10 and combined them into one large 100 bundle and moved them into the hundreds pocket. Take a look at some of the fun activities we did……..
We worked with our partners to make chains with 10 links.
Then all 10 groups connected their chains together to make a long chain of 100
Can you guess which jar has 100 beads?

Happy 100th Day!
Under Construction
As you all know, the school has been under construction since October. We began the process with our Groundbreaking Ceremony followed by the erecting of fences and viewing windows to the sounds of construction trucks. This week, we excitedly saw 7 cement trucks come with truckloads of cement which they poured for the building foundation. We talked about the different parts of a cement mixer truck (steel bumper, mixer water tank, windshield, mixer barrel, driver's door, and tire guard) and the children created mini booklets. In the block center, some children designed the new school and talked about their new vision. It's an exciting process and we will continue to incorporate our "construction" throughout our curriculum.
Our Chapel Performance
Hooray to Room 7 for a great performance at chapel!
This month, the children shared the story of "Joshua and the City of Jerico" with their friends. They re-enacted the story and shared an important message which is "we can talk to God whenever we need his help" just like Joshua and the children of Israel.
Henri Matisse Inspired Animal
Throughout the month of January, we will be studying and exploring animals. Children are naturally curious about the living things around them. This week, we learned about an artist named Henri Matisse. He was famous for creating artwork using paper cutouts.
The children thought about their favorite animal and began to think about them in detail. Using various colors of paper, the children began to cut out different animal body parts. Then they combined them to create their Matisse Inspired Animal.
Can you guess these animals.
Happy New Year!
Welcome everyone to a new year! As we begin 2012, the children thought about their goal or "resolution" for the new year. We talked about different things we are good at and some things that we would like to learn or get better at doing.
Here are three of the children's resolution for 2012!
"to ride a bicycle"
"to ride my bicycle without my training wheels"
"to ride my dad's motorcycle"
Making Inedible Gingerbread House Keepsakes!
The joy is really in the making; the opportunity to spend time together and have some fun too. The children really loved decorating their Houses.
Apple Cinnamon Scented Ornaments
Making cinnamon scented ornaments is a perfect holiday activity for kids. It is a great sensorial experience for the children, which allows them to use their sense of sight, smell, and touch. The children really had a lot of fun!
